Hello! I’m Jordan Mayland, the new Des Moines Music Coalition Program Coordinator. I am so very excited to be involved in the DMMC and I look forward to helping continue the growth of the music culture of Des Moines. A few things about myself: I graduated from Central College, I have played in many Iowa bands, and I’ve been a music instructor for over a decade, working with kids and adults of all ages. I hope to use my experiences as a musician and a teacher to help build our eclectic local music scene and integrate the youth into it as well. Our city is full of talent, young eager minds, and a diverse group of people coming from all sorts of different backgrounds. Music brings us together and says what words cannot. Let’s make some music!

One major focus I’m already jumping into with the DMMC team is music education for our youth. Our Rock Band and Hip-Hop Summer Camps start June 17th and we’ve pulled in some excellent local musicians, educators, and Hip-Hop artists to help guide our youth and provide them with the tools to being a musician. Like our Hip-Hop After School Program at Meredith Middle School, I would love to expand this type of curriculum into more schools in 2020.
