The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition (DMMC) and U.S. Cellular have announced a sponsorship for the 2008 80/35. The inaugural music festival will be held on July 4th and 5th in Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines. Five top national touring acts have been named to the lineup including Friday night headliner, The Flaming Lips and Saturday night headliner, The Roots, as well as Yonder Mountain String Band, Girl Talk and Drive-By Truckers. An additional announcement of artists will be made on Tuesday, May 13.

Recently Formed Blues Rock band Ski Bunny Suicide has released an EP/CD with 5 original tunes and 3 "original" covers. Locals Tony Jefferson (vocals, harmonica, guitar), George West (bass, vocals), Mike Lacey (drums, vocals) and Todd Guitar have laid down a strong intial offering.
