The Jason Klobnak Quintet will be making a stop in Des Moines tonight and tomorrow night. Tonight’s show: Star Bar, 9pm-12am. Tomorrow night’s show: Vaudeville Mews, 7pm-9pm. Q: Describe your sound in three words that begin with a J.
A: Juke, Jammin’ and Jazz.

Q: How does your background in education play into your music? Or does it at all?
A: I think my educational background in music helps with laying the foundation in songwriting. It definitely helps with the business side of the industry.

Q: What are you looking forward to most in Des Moines?
A: I grew up in Des Moines so there’s a number of things I’m looking forward to. Top of the list is probably a good steak.

Q: If you could hope to hear your music anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? (Elevator, coffee shop, museum, etc.)
A: I would hope to hear my music across Europe. Every chance I get to visit I enjoy the people and history.

Q: What can Des Moines look forward to at your shows (besides great music)?
A: Besides great music, Des Moines can look forward to a warmth and joyful energy that does not always accompany jazz shows.

Q: What have you been listening to lately?
A: I have been listening to a wide variety of music (in Jazz and outside of it). So here’s a few that have been on my playlist since this morning: Terence Blanchard, Lionel Loueke, and Gungor.

Q: What is one thing you’d like listeners to keep in mind while listening to your music?
A: When people listen to my music I want to paint a picture sonically that encourages them to keep moving forward and moving their mountains.
