So Much Music!

A note from DMMC Program Manager, Jordan Mayland, on some events and happenings going on in the very near future.

And here I thought festival season was the busy part of the year! Hey, I’m not complaining.  It’s great to see so many musical events happening and DMMC being involved.  Instead of sharing multiple social posts for each event (which we’ve done anyway), I thought it’d be nice to share a few happenings going on in the very near future.

First things first, as it’s happening tonight, J. Jeffrey Messerole will be performing solo at the 503 Cocktail Lab & Tasting Room (503 E Locust St, Des Moines, IA 50309) from 7:00-9:00.  503 Cocktail Lab will be hosting multiple singer/songwriter events on most Wednesdays for the foreseeable future!  The shows will be FREE and all ages (until 9:00pm).  For now the roster includes J. Jeffrey Messerole, Annie Kemble, Marc Bailey, Andrew Hoyt, Brian Herrin, Allegra Hernandez, Scott Still, and Joshua Sinclair.  We look forward to helping get the word out and supporting these events!

Next up, our friends at The Slow Down Coffee Co are now hosting weekly open mics on Thursdays.  Open Mics are a great way to get new artists opportunities to share their talent, bring the community together, and keep the creative vibes buzzing.  The weekly event will start around 5:00 on Thursdays where performers can either sign up at the show, or we might recommend signing up early by heading to this link to confirm your spot!

I (Jordan Mayland) was asked to close down the first show, Thursday December 1st, so I hope to see some friendly faces there to check out the performances or to get onstage and share!

The Pollinate Holiday Market: This will be a fun day, and if any local musicians and acts would like some of their merch to be sold at this event please email me at jordan@desmoinesmc.com to chat details.  DMMC and myself are happy to be your merch team and sell your items to those coming to celebrate the festivities with us at The Firehouse (former DM Social Club).  It might be a great opportunity to sell some vinyls, tapes, shirts, and more at a discounted holiday price.  Heck, you set the price, we’ll sling your items, and all the proceeds from the sales will go directly back to the musician.  Check out the full details on the Facebook event!  We hope to see you there!

In other DMMC news, our Hip Hop 101 after-school classes are winding down for the semester.  I can’t believe it’s already the end of the year!  I’ve been so happy to see our Hip Hop crew working with so many talented and interested students within these clubs and classes.  We’ve had a great semester partnering with The Boys & Girls Club of Central Iowa within the Des Moines Public Schools district.

We’ve been to Amos Hiatt Middle School, East High School, The Gregory and Suzie Glazer Burt Club at Drake, McCombs Middle School, a special day at Valley High, Moore Elementary, and Meredith Middle School this semester.  My hope is to see many of these students join us at our Music Summer Camps in 2023 and hopefully on stages soon!  Huge thanks to Dom Russell and Anthony Maldonado for your excellent work and mentorship with these students and classes.

Oh yeah, 80/35 Music Festival Early Bird tickets went on sale this week.  It’s just a little festival DMMC puts on annually.  😉

This year we’ve set up tickets in multiple tiers, so right now is the best price you’ll get for your passes.  $80 for a two-day festival is a pretty darn good deal and we love to give that price to the audience who trusts in what we do even before we have released the 2023 roster of acts.  I am personally pretty amped on a lot of what we’ll be bringing this year, and our local stages will be fire as well. Get that discounted ticket today before they sell out soon!
