The Kate Thompson Trio is a jazz combo featuring bass, guitar and vocals along with saxophone, flute and keyboard. Kate Thompson is an established Iowa vocalist with a long history of band and musical theatre performances. She had a standing gig with her jazz group at Mendoza Wine Bar, where she produced an annual "Anti-Valentine's Cabaret." She was a founding member of the Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts' touring company, where she performed with Liz Callaway and Donna Lynne Champlin. She was a vocalist for Fairfield area band Blue Cat Alley (blues/rock), which won the Englert Theatre's Battle of the Bands. Bassist Gil McNaughton Steve "39 Strings" Hurst is an accomplished guitarist, mandolin and ukulele player who performs with the Onion Creek Cloggers, a traditional folk music group, and (Dixieland). He is a three time State Fair mandolin champion. Nate Fair (saxophone, keyboard, flute) is a retired band director and current member of Murphy's Law, one of Okoboji's most popular rock bands. Influences include Diana Krall, Norah Jones, Linda Ronstadt, Sarah Vaughan, Katie Melua, Patsy Cline and k.d. lang.
