Way back in 2006, a group of friends formed a band to participate in a local battle of the bands in Newton, IA. They gave themselves four days to practice. Oh yeah, and then they won.

The Nemo Orchestra draw influence from several bands such as Wilco, Flaming Lips, and Primus. Which is kind of a perfect trifecta of bands to mix together for the great sounds that the band brings to the stage. Nemo has the folk roots that Wilco brings, but also the raw, eccentric energy that Primus or the Flaming Lips can always deliver.

But The Nemo Orchestra boys aren’t just selected components from different bands. Their sound is a perfect mixture of all those different bands. One of my favorite songs from them is “I Need a Place”. It gives a perfect example of the driving guitars and the catching choruses that each of their songs give. “I Need a Place” is simple at the core, but that gives the band room to layer some impressive instrumentation during the guitar solos towards the end of the track.

The Nemo Orchestra will be a must see at this year’s Little Big Fest and a band that you will need to keep a close eye on in the years to come.

The Nemo Orchestra will play at Little Big Fest on November 15th at Beechwood Lounge at 9:00pm.
