The River Monks get their name from the history of our own city, Des Moines, which literally translates to “The Monks”. Hugely talented musicians with huge amounts of local pride, we like!

The River Monks came together because they believed that music should come from the heart, and should be something to fall in love with (and we have). Their primary aspiration is to make music that is fun, both to play and to listen to.

Their debut album, Jovials, was released by Des Moines’ own Sleep on the Floor Records. You can read the DMMC’s review of Jovials here, and you can stream the album for free at Band Camp. If you like what you hear, go visit them on facebook. You can also check out their shows on March 29, at the Lamp Post Lounge in Pella, and on April 7 at Aquapalooza in Ames.
