Civic Music Association presents the Miró Quartet with Colin Currie

(Des Moines, IA)  Civic Music Association will present the Miró Quartet with Colin Currie on Saturday, April 6th at 7:30 pm at Drake University’s Sheslow Auditorium. A pre-concert talk by Mark Dorr, Principal Percussionist and Orchestra Manager for the Des Moines Metro Opera, will take place in Sheslow Auditorium at 6:45 pm.  This concert is made possible by a gift from Don & Marian Easter.

Percussionist Colin Currie has established a unique reputation for his charismatic and virtuosic performances. Regularly commissioning and recording new works, he has made an inspirational contribution to the percussion repertoire and has emerged as one of today’s most innovative and compelling artists.

Hailed by the New York Times as possessing “explosive vigor and technical finesse”, the colorful and dynamic Miró Quartet, one of America’s highest-profile chamber groups enjoys its place at the top of the international chamber music scene. The string quartet captivates audiences and critics around the world with its startling intensity and fresh perspective.

MEET THE ARTIST RECEPTION

Immediately following the concert, guests will enjoy music by the Drake University Piano Quartet, appetizers, drinks and a chance to meet the members of Miró Quartet and famed percussionist, Colin Currie.  This reception, sponsored by KRNT will be located at the Patty & Fred Turner Jazz Center, just a short walk from Sheslow Auditorium on the Drake University campus.  $10/person or FREE for Civic Music Association “Thank You” Donors.

 

TICKETS

Tickets may be purchased by visiting Midwestix at www.midwestix.com, contacting the Civic Music Association office at 515-280-4020 or visiting the Civic Music Association box office located at 1620 Pleasant Street, Suite 244 in Sherman Hill. Tickets range from $12-$36 with special student prices in all sections.  In addition, students may purchase any available tickets one-hour prior to the concert for $7 (with valid student id.)
