Meet Noah Short, our Backstage Ball 2020 Volunteer of the Year! Since Noah is stationed out in Montana these days he was nice enough to respond via video with Program Coordinator, Jordan Mayland. It’s a great chance to get to know Noah and for him to talk a bit about his volunteer experiences!

Noah Short is a Des Moines native and south side raised. Attending his first show at the first 80/35 in 2008, he knew he wanted to part of what made 80/35 so special: the team. He started volunteering in 2014 as a stage hand. Getting an opportunity to be a stage manager in 2016, (where an up-and-coming Lizzo picked him up and threw him off stage). After that, he moved into a support role for the team. Picking up anything that needed to be done for the festival: Setting stages, building grounds, running after parties, finding lanyards, etc.

If there’s a way to help, Noah will be there to give a hand.

Noah’s favorite thing about volunteering with DMMC, is that he gets to help people fall in love with Des Moines and its music scene, the way same way he did.

Noah recently moved to Red Lodge, Montana with his Great Pyrenees, Kiri, to be the IT Dir. at Red Lodge Mountain. He may be 1000 miles away, but 80/35 and Des Moines will always be his home.
