Max Jury

MaxJury_2Russell Crowe says it best: “Strange and haunting, @jimmyfallon check this out. Max Jury – Christian Eyes.” That was a tweet from a Saturday morning that Jury shared on his Facebook page. Crowe isn’t the only one who has taken notice of this upcoming must-hear. UK music webzine GoldFlakePaint recently featured his song “Something in the Air.” Jury’s Americana-gone-hip, country-edged vocals will pull you to the front of a venue, right up to the stage, where quite the “music moment” will await you. You know, the ones where the room gets quiet and the only thing anyone in the room is focusing on is Jury’s quietly intense piano playing and “haunting” lyrics.

Much like St. Louis-based Pokey LaFarge, Jury has a voice that cuts through the white noise to a time much more simple than the bustling venue he’s playing. I can’t vouch for the rest of Russell Crowe’s music tastes and I can’t say there would be much that he and I would agree on, but I think we can both concur that there are big things on the horizon for this Des Moines-based singer/songwriter. Lucky for us, we can catch him at 80/35 for what will surely be a feel-good act set in what I would imagine to be the best venue for Jury—outside in the warm weather with great friends and cold beers.
