Panelists:
Michael Swanger - An award-winning freelance journalist who has written about the Iowa music scene for various newspapers and magazines and is the longtime music critic for Cityview, a Des Moines alt-weekly newspaper. When he isn't writing about music, he performs with his own band, Matt Woods and The Thunderbolts.
Joe Lawler - Writer for Juice and the Des Moines Register, regularly covering music events in Des Moines. In addition to touring acts, each week he features local bands in Juice and blogs music news (almost) daily at desmoines.metromix.com. Though possessing no musical talent of his own, he is proud to have five-starred all the songs in "Beatles: Rock Band" (medium difficulty).
Marc Hogan - Writing music reviews regularly for Pitchfork.com since 2004. His music writing has also appeared in Spin, the Village Voice, Paste, Playboy.com and the Chicago Tribune. When not writing about music, he is also a reporter and writer for various publications owned by the Financial Times.
Moderator: Jill Haverkamp - The marketing and pr co-chair for the DMMC for nearly three years, Jill has six years of music industry experience, from covering music for the Illinois Entertainer to marketing for Victory Records, Paperwork Media, Vaudeville Mews, and Jeff McClusky and Associates. Her full-time career world revolves around beer, as the marketing and pr manager for Olde Main Brewing Co.
Music University is a free music business education series designed to provide artists and industry professionals advice on making a living through music in Central Iowa. Local and regional experts lead panel discussions covering a wide variety of topics of interest to anyone trying to move ahead in the music industry.
