Saddle Creek Records is one of the most renowned indie labels in the U.S. The label has been around since 1993 and its roster has included many acclaimed bands including Bright Eyes, Cursive, Rilo Kiley, Beep Beep, Neva Dinova, Tokyo Police Club. Kulbel will discuss label management, money flow, copyright, record contracts, getting signed, submitting demos, differences between majors and indies, core strategies labels provide for artists, and much more. Artists and industry professionals are encouraged to attend this free Music University session. A moderator will lead the discussion, followed by questions from attendees. DETAILS Wednesday, May 27 7:00 PM Des Moines Social Club FREE ABOUT MUSIC UNIVERSITY Music University is a free music business education series designed to provide artists and industry professionals advice on making a living through music in Central Iowa. Local and regional experts lead panel discussions covering a wide variety of topics of interest to anyone trying to move ahead in the music industry. Music University is funded by a grant from Prairie Meadows. Past panels have included Getting Gigs and Touring, Self Promotion 101, Getting on the Radio, The ABC’s of Releasing a CD, and Legal Issues. Look for upcoming seminars to begin again in September. |

The Greater Des Moines Music Coalition continues the Music University series with Record Labels: A Perspective From Saddle Creek featuring Jason Kulbel, label manager and founder of Omaha’s Saddle Creek Records. The free panel will be held at the Des Moines Social Club on Wednesday, May 27 at 7pm.
